All Immigrants Are Not Criminals

Going by the xenophobia and alarmist press reports the US is being invaded by hoards of illegal immigrants pouring across ineffective border lines and creating a grave threat to the security of the law abiding citizens. The US is being invaded by Mexican Drug Lords, Columbian drug cartel members, not to mention terrorists and barbarians of all sorts, and we should be standing back to back in a corral ready to fight off the invaders.

Of course this is all a wild exaggeration of the true situation. While not denying that there are many would be immigrants to the US who attempt to slip across the borders many are just coming to work in the fields to earn some cash to take back to their families. Certainly they have broken a few US laws coming in but to brand them all as criminals and terrorists is far from the true situation.

There is no reign of terror from illegal aliens even if it is acknowledged that crossing the US border without the benefit of immigration papers is itself illegal. Even if the xenophobia is fed with the line that the illegals have broken laws to get here, so it follows that they will have no objections to breaking a few more laws while they are here as they have no respect for US law. The truth of the matter is probably the opposite in that most illegal immigrants want to keep their noses clean lest they get apprehended and find themselves detained and deported.

Naturally they will tend to flock to areas where people with similar backgrounds to themselves live. It is also extremely unlikely that their presence will be made known to the authorities by those in the community as there is bound to be a lot of sympathy for the plight of the immigrant. But is he likely to be a violent criminal?

The crime statistics actually show a decline. Between 1986 and 2010 the murder rate has dropped by 37% forcible rape down 23% and drunken driving deaths are well down as well.

In Prisons the population of illegal immigrant is just 14% most of whom are in detention for immigration reasons rather than criminal violations and in State prisons where violent criminals are held the illegal immigrant population is less than 5%.

This does not detract from the fact that these immigrants are illegals and thus have no way of ever getting legal residence here in the US. If they are apprehended for a crime they will be prosecuted, have to serve a sentence and thereafter be deported.
Legal immigrant however may also be arrested for any of many reasons. They should immediately contact the Immigration Lawyer in Los Angeles who will investigate their detention and mount a robust defense. If they have been apprehended for a driving violation or any other infraction they have no worries but any accusation of a misdemeanor needs to be robustly defended lest it adversely affect the immigration process.

Make sure that you sufficiently research your Los Angeles Criminal Immigration Lawyer options before you make a choice.
